Students Honor Those Dedicated to Defending Our Liberty and Freedom (Video Posted)
Cross-town rivalry was put aside on Thursday, November 10 as Wahoo High and Bishop Neumann High Schools came together for the 2011 Veterans Day Assembly, to honor all servicemen, past and present. The assembly was held at 9:30 a.m. in the Performance-Learning Center.
The annual ceremony is sponsored by the WHS Student Council, advised by WHS American Government Instructor Ryan Mueller.
Special guests included several local veterans from a variety of different branches, members of the Wahoo VFW Beaver-Bartek 4502 and American Legion Post 82, who opened the ceremony by posting the colors, and closed the ceremony by retiring the colors.
Also featured were the impressive combined sounds of the WHS and Neumann Concert Bands, directed by Tim Rischling and Joann Couton, and the WHS Blue & Gold and Neumann Choirs, directed by Julie Baker-Anderson and Brian Botsford.
This year's Veterans Day Message was given by Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale, who focused on the importance of service in our local, state, national and global community. Gale encouraged students to reach for their goals, and always by selfless to the opportunity to serve with their time and talents wherever and whenever needed.
We remember and honor those who sacrificed everything, and those who served and continue to serve to defend and preserve everything that makes the United States the best country on earth!
