2018 Veterans Day Assembly

Wahoo High School recently hosted the annual Veterans Day program on Monday, November 12, 2018 in a joint assembly with Bishop Neumann High School.
The event is sponsored by the Wahoo High School Student Council.
Over 40 veterans were in attendance from the local American Legion and VFW, along with a few teachers who are also veterans. WHS junior Kaitlyn Herndon presented her student essay to the audience on what it means to have a parent who is in the military and how this has impacted her life.
This year’s guest speaker was Sergeant Megan Liekhus of the Nebraska National Guard. Sergeant Liekhus spoke to the audience about why she serves and what it means to her. She spoke of the lifelong friendships she has built as a result of her military service, and she reminded all of us about our daily freedoms and the importance of thanking our veterans for their service.

Lastly, members of the WHS and BNHS bands and choirs also joined in the celebration by performing renditions of Come Stand with the Brave and Salute to America’s Finest. Once again, the joint music groups put on an impressive show for the over 700 people in attendance. After the program concluded, student council members presented roses to the veterans in attendance.
