WHS History Students' Civil War Study Goes Beyond Textbooks
Class Taps in to National Archives Video Conference
Launch the media gallery 1 playerStudents in Mr. Ryan Mueller’s U.S. History classes had a unique opportunity on Thursday, October 27, when they linked up with the National Archives in Washington, D.C. via video conference to learn about the Civil War.
The presentation was delivered by Mr. David Rosenbaum, a Nebraska Native, veteran teacher from Tri-County High School, and now educational specialist at the National Archives.
Rosenbaum presented a variety of interesting pictures and documents about the history of the Civil War. Students learned about the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, the major battles during the war, and how a variety of citizens and soldiers contributed to the war effort in both the Union and Confederacy.
Some highlights included: Lincoln’s actual written copy of the Gettysburg Address, pictures of Fort Sumter after April 1861, Robert E. Lee’s battle map at Gettysburg, and battlefield photos from Shiloh and Antietam.
Rosenbaum, as always, delivered a highly engaging presentation with numerous primary source documents.
The presentation highlighted many of the events that these juniors have been learning about the Civil War over the past month. We look forward to welcoming back the National Archives for future presentations.
