Eric Curran Competes at State Poetry Out Loud Competition
Wahoo’s Eric Curran recently competed in the March 14 State Poetry Out Loud Finals in Lincoln.
Curran gave a strong performance as he recited “Annabel Lee” and “O Captain! My Captain!” While the judges did not select Eric as one of the four finalists (his fifth place finish was only one point behind the fourth place position), English teacher Larry Fangman was impressed by Curran’s performance.
“I think Eric gave an awesome performance. He really conveyed the meaning of his poems, which is the goal of Poetry Out Loud. I think being in POL the last two years has been a positive experience for Eric. His hard work and willingness to recite his poems to anyone (including the entire Wahoo student body) improved Eric’s public speaking ability and also did a lot for the future of the Wahoo Poetry Out Loud Program,” Fangman commented.
For competing at state, Eric received a forty-dollar gift certificate to Barnes and Noble and two poetry books from The Backwaters Press.
