WHS Art 2 students create clay characters
Projects now on display in Commons
High School Art 2 students have recently finished creating characters out of clay.
We start our projects by wrapping newspaper around wooden armatures. They try to get the newspaper the basic shape of the character that they are going to make. The newspaper is used because the clay heads need to be hollow.
After they have created the shape out of newspaper, they roll out clay using rolling pins and then drape the clay over the newspaper. After the newspaper is covered with clay they start adding facial features and details with more clay.
When they are all done, they take out the newspaper and fire the clay heads in the kiln. When they come out of the kiln they are ready to be painted.
