Jaquelyn Perkins competes at Poetry Out Loud State Finals
WHS sophomore wins 2018 school competition
Wahoo sophomore Jaquelyn Perkins competed in the Poetry Out Loud State Finals on Sunday, March 11 at the Sheldon Museum of Art in Lincoln.
Perkins was one of eighteen participants from around the state of Nebraska. She recited the poems “In a Dark Time” by Theodore Roethke, and “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” by Emily Dickinson.
“Jaquelyn has worked really hard on her poems. She did a great job in getting across the meaning of her poems to the audience and in representing Wahoo High School. It has been awesome to see her improvement every time she has recited her poems,” said WHS English Teacher Larry Fangman.
Hope Stratman of Skutt Catholic High School was the 2018 Nebraska State Champion.
Eighty Wahoo High School sophomores participated in Poetry Out Loud in 2018. Perkins won the school competition before moving on to the regional and state competitions.
