Sam Edmonds awarded prestigious Energy Industry Fundamentals certificate
WHS junior is the second SENCAP student this year honored for excelling in his rigorous study of the energy sector
Launch the media gallery 1 playerSam Edmonds, Wahoo High School junior, has received his Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) certificate, which was presented to him this week by Southeast Community College Northern Region SENCAP Coordinator Joe Sajevic.
The certificate signifies the successful completion of the Energy Fundamentals training through his Energy Industry Fundamentals (EIF) class (ENER-1100-AC11W) at Southeast Community College, a dual-credit core course where students gain solid industry knowledge and earn college credit.
The EIF credential is a badge of honor that has been awarded to more than 3,500 students across the country who have demonstrated proficiency in their understanding of the energy sector. EIF program participants navigate energy generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure; learn about types of energy and their conversion to useable energy; explore emerging technologies; conduct case studies on business models; overview regulations and make connections to energy careers.
Throughout 130 hours of instructional time, students learn:
- Basic and emerging principles and concepts that impact the energy industry
- Compliance procedures necessary to ensure a safe and healthy work environment
- Principles of electric power generation
- Fundamentals of electric power and natural gas transmission
- Standards of electric and natural gas distribution
- Entry requirements for careers in energy
The EIF program is sponsored by the CEWD, a non-profit consortium of more than 120 energy companies, associations, unions, educational institutions, and government entities working in partnership to ensure a skilled, diverse talent pipeline for the energy industry.
Earning this EIF credential allows students to differentiate themselves to employers by demonstrating their knowledge of the needs and requirements for success in the energy sector. Whether students are interested in skilled trade positions or energy careers requiring advanced degrees, the EIF credential and accompanying digital badge offer validation of subject matter comprehension and support candidacy for industry internships and careers. It’s the X-factor for showcasing interest, comprehension, and career initiative.
Edmonds is the second WHS SENCAP student to receive this award this year. WHS junior Jesse Stebbing also received his CEWD certifcate back in January.
"Sam gave a great effort in this class and his hard work paid off," Sajevic commented. "His persistence resulted in being awarded this Certificate. Southeast Community College is proud to have Wahoo High School as a partner and also is proud of Sam's accomplishment."
