Pfeiffer, Swanson, Larson & Thrasher named among Pinnacle's 2018 'Outstanding High School Leaders'
WHS juniors recognized at annual awards luncheon at Midland U
Pinnacle Bank and Midland University honored 50 high school juniors for their accomplishments in the classroom and in their communities with the 2018 Pinnacle Bank Outstanding High School Leaders Award Friday inside Midland’s Wikert Event Center.
Among those were four juniors from Wahoo High School: Elly Larson, Mattison Pfeiffer, Kyla Swanson, and Emma Thrasher.
These students were nominated by school staff members. Each nominated student completed an application and wrote an essay explaining his/her view of leadership. In addition, one staff member wrote a letter of recommendation on behalf of each student to complete the application process.
Midland also presented each recipient a $25,000 scholarship for each of the student’s four years at the university, an award worth a total of $100,000.
“Pinnacle Bank recognizes the importance of community leaders, and these students already have proven their abilities in their schools and their hometowns,” said Scott Meister, president of Pinnacle Bank’s Fremont Branch. “We are proud to partner with Midland University, which has a strong tradition of inspiring students to learn and lead in the world with purpose.”
Nearly 100 students from 17 area high schools were nominated for the award, which recognizes the students’ academic accomplishments and their leadership qualities. Award recipients were selected by a community panel consisting of business leaders, elected officials, and Midland University representatives.
Many of the recipients of the Pinnacle Bank Outstanding High School Leaders Award are involved in five or more school-related activities, have volunteered in their communities, and are employed at local businesses. They are mentors for younger students and are examples of leadership and service.
“Your accomplishments have truly blown us away,” said Matt Bojanski, Midland’s Director of Admissions. “Your involvement in your schools, the impact you are having in your communities, and your outstanding academic achievements compelled us to offer the $25,000 scholarship. You are the future leaders of our world, and Midland would be proud to accept each of you as our student.”
Congratulations Elly, Mattison, Kyla, and Emma on this impressive accomplishment!
