Brigham, Brust, Hastings & Walker receive Pinnacle's 2016 'Outstanding High School Leader' Award
WHS juniors honored for their leadership skills & potential

WHS juniors Corby Brigham, Emma Hastings, Hannah Brust, and Ryan Walker (not pictured) have been honored for putting those words into practice.
All four were recently selected as recipients of the 2016 Outstanding High School Leader Award, sponsored by Midland University and Pinnacle Bank.
This annual award is presented to students who are juniors in high school, and exemplify leadership achievement both in high school and in their communities. Students are nominated for the honor by their teachers. Brigham was nominated by WHS Business Instructor Barb Shanahan, Hastings by WHS FACS Instructor Carrie Mullendore-Dilsaver, Brust by WHS Spanish Instructor Cass Didier, and Walker was nominated by WHS Transitions Instructor Abbie Huenink.

These students, along with Mrs. Shanahan an Mrs. Mullendore-Dilsaver, attended a luncheon and awards ceremony on Friday, April 29 at the Midland University Event Center.
The nominating teachers had plenty of praise for their nominees:
Mrs. Shanahan: “In my years of teaching and being an FBLA Adviser, I have had a lot of excellent student leaders. Corby is by far at the top.”
Mrs. Mullendore-Dilsaver: "Emma's work ethic has always impressed me. She is a role model who is driven to succeed, no matter how great or small the task. I am one of many who knows Emma deserved this recognition!"
Mrs. Didier: "My favorite feature about Hannah is her well-rounded, personable character. While Hannah is not always a vocal leader, she definitely leads by example. She doesn’t hesitate to help someone in need—whether that is using her creative skills to create a poster or partnering up with a peer to review for a test. She is a model student."
Ms. Huenink: "From a young age, it became obvious that Ryan was a natural born leader. He is a remarkable role model, with a well-grounded value system; which in turn has allowed him to mentor several peers. He continues to be humble, always maintaining an upbeat and encouraging attitude, regardless of the outcome."
Award winners who enroll at Midland University in the fall of 2015 will also receive a $1,000 scholarship. This leadership scholarship encourages students to continue to develop leadership traits well after high school. All students earning the award were nominated by a high school counselor, teacher, administrator, or other community leader.
